The mountains are impure: the semantics of lexical plurality

This paper is concerned with the semantics of so-called plurals extension, a class lexical such as mountains, cliffs, skies, Hebrides, and Pyrenees. While similar on surface to regular plural nouns, they behave differently in certain regards, including their compatibility determiners, interpretation half N partitives possibility occur weak definites. We will argue that extension denote predicates over impure atoms, predicting theybehave singulars from semantic point view morphological view. The analysis be extended temporal mass nouns.
